About
If you made it here, then it's likely that you want to get to know more about me. Thank you!
My name is Jordan Gossett. That should be obvious since that's the name of the website and it's what the URL has.
Hey! It's me!
Hobbies
I’ve played guitar for over 20 years now. It’s hard to fathom. I’m not the best and I guess I’m not the worst, but I like thinking of my own songs to play and learning songs that other people know.
I love to play video games. I think one of the reasons I love computers and programming today is because of my love of video games. I started off with Richard Scarry’s Busytown on MS-DOS as a child. Not too long after, I played both Wario Land and Pokémon Red on my cousin’s Game Boy Pocket relatively soon afterwards. After playing Super Mario 64 for the first time, I was hooked!
Programming
I have come to love programming. I originally did not like it. I took a Java programming class and failed it. It was the first and only class I have ever failed! For years after that I swore that I would never program again.
Eventually, I had to take a programming class again en route to a system administration certificate from Greenville Technical College. That class was an introductory Python course. Needless to say, that got me hooked on programming. I learned HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and SQL. I made web applications that used all those languages! I have also made graphical programs with Python and Java. C# is also one of my favorite languages (I love Windows forms).
System Administration
I almost feel destined for information technology and system administration. Since the mid 2000s while I was a child, I was always the person who had to plug in cords ranging from TV inputs and Ethernet cables to troubleshooting cords when something wouldn’t work.
I find that is also the reason why I also enjoy building computers and making sure that computers and their networks work properly. Tinkering around is also why I think I like Linux so much. I’ve learned how to work with Windows Server and I also have learned Red Hat Enterprise Linux. I have a home server running openmediavault so I can transfer files between it and my computers at home. My next step is finding ways to use a VPN so I can access it outside my home network.
Work
I am available to work! If you want to view my resume, then please visit the resume page on the website. I have experience ranging from cashier work to administrative work to customer service work, so that alongside my system administration and programming knowledge ensures that I can get the job done for you. Thank you for looking at my website and considering me!
